5 Question Friday

So I haven't uploaded pictures since the last time I blogged so you're still not getting an update.  After NYE, I'll bombard you with pictures and updates.  In the meantime, here is a 5 Question Friday Link Up (

1. If you had to give 1 million dollars to just one person (not your spouse), who would it be and why?

This is such a hard question.  Given the timing with the Connecticut shooting, I would want to give it a family who has a child struggling with serious mental illness so they can get the help they need.  I believe that guns (for or against) are not what our focus should be on.  Almost all of the shootings are done by someone with serious mental illness.  We should address this problem.

2. What bathroom stall do you typically go to FIRST?

I read somewhere that the first bathroom stall is the most unused and the cleanest.  Who knows if this is true, but that's usually what I go for.

3. How do you prefer to shop: In-store or online?

Definitely online.

4. What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Cold, cloudy and going to rain this afternoon.

5. Do you own a pair of Tom's and what do you think? Overrated, underrated or about right?

I do not.  I think it is a great idea, but I wonder now that they are so big, how much actually gets to children in Africa.  Also, they just aren't my style.

christmas cheer

One of my best friends works for Disney and she worked on this video and it is amazing so please go watch it.  It is super funny and entertaining and the song is great.  It won't disappoint.

We decorated...duh!  Here are some pictures.  Before you scroll down and view them, please do yourself a favor and click this link and get this song going before you do.  I PROMISE it will be well worth it!! Nothin' like a little N'Sync to spread Christmas cheer!

It took us all of 30 minutes to get our tree picked out, paid for and loaded into the car!!

Every trip we go on we try to get an ornament to remember it by.  The ball in the foreground is from NY and the house on the left is from Solvang.  Each ornament has meaning and when we decorate, it is fun to reminisce (by reminisce I mean I quiz Russ on where the ornaments are from and get mad when he doesn't remember!)

This year we got an SF Giants one since we moved here and since the Giants won the World Series.

We got this one on our recent trip to Maui.

The little stockings are for the girls (B&B)

"Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! and Happy Holidays!"

We went and saw the Nutcracker. As you guys know, I love ballet. So I conned Russ into seeing the Nutcracker with me.

Despite loving ballet (and having been in the Nutcracker before), I had never actually seen it. It was a magical fairyland of Christmas bliss. Needless to say, I loved it.  My favorite scene is the snow scene.  SF Ballet did a great job with it and is was so beautiful.  White snow just poured down and made me wish I lived somewhere where it snowed!!

Sorry this is blurry.  Russ was struggling.  He swears my photo of him is just as blurry.  Please SOMEONE tell me I am not crazy and the pic of me is WAY blurrier!!??

The whole second half was just full of amazing dances.  I didn't want it to end.  Well done SF Ballet, well done!

Romantic Getaway

This weekend Russ took me on a surprise getaway to Calistoga .  It is near Napa and is a wine country type place, but it is a lot less busy/commercial than Napa.  It is mountainous and gorgeous.  I am in love.

We stayed at this beautiful resort, Solage.  Each room is like a little bungalow.  It had a giant, lovely bed, a fireplace and a pretty patio.

The hotel provided bicycles so we rode them to different wineries to do wine tasting.

Russ got us a little lost!

Most beautiful place ever.  I spent the whole time swooning over the landscape and beautiful fall leaves falling down around us like golden flecks of the sun.

The hotel also had geothermal springs so after wine tasting we languished in the geothermal pool = heaven.  Then we went to a yummy dinner.  I was too busy eating to take pictures so there are none of the food, but it was delish!

Overall it was a lovely getaway!  How was your weekend?

lesson learned

This morning I saw this video and was truly moved to tears.  This is a great lesson in character and wonderful parenting.

It also made me think about what it means to win.  Some people would say that Justin lost.  Justin himself said that winning isn't always as important as doing the right thing (seriously!? what an amazing kid!).

However, I don't think he lost.  I think he decided for himself that winning meant something different.  Let us all hope that we raise our children to be (and can be ourselves) good examples of character and defining "winning" in our own way.

Pictureless Celebrations

I thought this weekend would be our quiet recovery weekend after traveling for Thanksgiving, but it turned out to be anything but.

Friday we went to a birthday dinner for a friend.  As you probably noticed from all of my "girls nights" in with my dogs and a movie, I don't love going out on Friday nights, but we had a lot of fun. ANNNDDD I checked out after dinner like a grandma while the young folk went out to the bars!  You gotta be you and let's face it, I'm a grandma on the inside.

Saturday I redeemed myself.  We went to a holiday party at a friend's house.  Go me!! Aren't you proud?  On the flip side, it rained ALL WEEKEND and im not good with a camera and an umbrella so I pretty much have no pictures! Sorry!

In order to make it up to you, I have a little video here of two funny ladies.  And yes, that is Hart of Dixie on in the background.  I make no apologies.

Sunday is a day of rest!  Well there's no rest for the weary (like my catchphrases there?).  Sunday we drove out to the 'burbs to celebrate Russell's mom's birthday.  I love going out to the 'burbs.  Even though this one is his home and not mine, it feels like being home.  Besides that, everything is easier so I do all my errands when we go out there!  We did some shopping and checked some items off my To Do list.

All and all it was a good weekend.  What did you do this weekend?

Thanksgiving Recap

So you guys remember when I did couch to 5k and ran in my first 5k here ?  Well we celebrated Thanksgiving on Friday so that we could have dinner with my Aunt and Uncle.  As a result, we needed something to do on Thursday.  We decided a little exercise wasn't a bad idea given how much eating we would be doing on Friday.  SOO, I did another 5k!

My mom and I spent the rest of the day baking pies and prepping for Thanksgiving dinner the next day.

We cooked the whole dinner and then ate a ton! It was amazing!

Saturday we decided to do a hike since we had eaten so much and since the weather was so nice.  It was long and uphill and hard.  I was impressed with us for making it to the top.  Afterwards I ate leftovers and took a 2 hour nap! Ha!

you see the deer?

We made it to the moon! Haha not really, but it sure felt that way!

My brother left Saturday evening.  I didn't leave until Monday (at 6am!!!) so Mama B and I had a girls day Sunday.  We got our nails done and saw Anna Karenina.  It was a fun day and an awesome trip!

Hope you guys had as great of a Thanksgiving as I did.
