long weekend review!

Don't worry this won't actually be long, I meant the weekend was long.  We had a blissful and uneventful weekend.  We went to a bday party and spent Saturday in the burbs at a BBQ.

We watched the Vow (first time I ever got Russ to watch a chick flick w me!), went for a beautiful run, took the girls to the beach, ran some errands, and spent a lot of time on the couch!!!

This is what the girls did while Russ went out on Sunday night!

Brussy loves to chase birds

After playing at the beach they both got a bath.  This is little nakey, proper Bijou post-bath.

On Memorial Day Russ and I rented bikes and rode from the city across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and then to Tiberon.  Then we took the ferry from Tiburon back to the city and rode our bikes home.  This totals about 20 miles.  Needless to say, I can barely walk today.

This was at the beginning before I thought I was going to die.

I got a treat for making it!

I also cut my hair and got bangs.  You can't tell here because I have helmet hair.  Ill post new pics with cute hair another time.

We saw this church while we were riding and I thought it was SO perfect.  Had to take a picture!

Bay to Breakers and Brother

My older brother lives in San Diego.  We are pretty darn close and he just had his birthday so he came up to SF to celebrate with me and Russ and do Bay to Breakers.

Bay to Breakers is on Sunday so Friday night I laid low (shocking I know).  Saturday I went running.  Best run ever.  I went running through the Golden Gate along the water.  Perfect weather, great views and my longest and fastest run yet! (2.25 miles, pace of 8:16)

Then my brother arrived and we got lunch and went costume shopping.  The we got drinks with friends and called it a night early because Bay to Breakers starts early Sunday morning.

Bay to Breakers is a crazy "run" in SF.  Normal people run the race and following them is a slew (sp?) of drunk people in costume or even naked (it is SF!).  The run goes from the Bay to the Breakers all the way through the city.  We decided to be the costume wearing drinkers who followed the runners.

We got dressed up as lifeguards and headed out with our supplies at 7:30am.  We brought adult beverages, water, snacks, sunscreen, toilette paper and hand sanitizer.  The race is a 12k and the only bathrooms are porta potties so TP and sanitizer a requirement!

We met up with friends and had an awesome time.  We were home and on the couch with pizza by about 3pm and in bed by 9pm.  I woke up feeling sluggish this morning, but a cool walk with the girls woke me right up!

Happy Monday!

Builder B

My mom got me and Russ under the bed drawers as a house warming gift.  When she came and visited and saw how messy under our bed was, I think she couldn't help herself.  Either way, I love them!

gibberish!

I thought I would be tough and build them myself!  When I took the pieces out and looked at the directions, I was completely puzzled!  I was just about ready to give up all hope when I realized that there were two drawers! It totally explained all the extra pieces I couldn't figure out what to do with!  When I realized it, I shouted "OMG! LIFE CHANGING!" haha Russ thought this was a little dramatic, but seriously?!  How was I supposed to know there were two drawers?  There was only one in the picture!

Anyways, I got it all done and it looks great and matches perfectly! Thanks mom!

As I was writing this, Russ said "oh no Im gonna look like the a**hole that didn't help you build those."  I love how this blog holds people accountable :)

BTW as a side note- anyone who has their settings so that if they comment you can't reply to them should change that.  If you comment on my blog and I don't respond, it is because you have a "no-reply" feature set up.  I only mention this because I didn't want people to think I don't care enough to reply.  I always feel bad not replying to your comments.  OK...tangent over. Thanks!

weekend review

I met a new friend on the bus.  She lives in my building and works across the street from me too!  It was meant to be!  On Friday after work she invited me to join her and a couple other friends for happy hour.  It was so nice to spend some time with cool girls and have a drink and still get into bed early.

Saturday Russ and I got up early and went out to Napa.  We went to Raymond vineyard, which is a beautiful vineyard with a farm.  It had chickens, goats, vegetables, the works!!

At Raymond, we did this program called "winemaker for a day."  In this we got dressed up in lab coats and got a lesson in blending wines.  We got to blend our own wine, bottle them and create our own labels.  It was SOO fun!!

We got lunch at this big outdoor BBQ place and had a picnic.  I got fresh bread with mozzarella, roasted garlic, tomatoes, basil, olive oil and balsamic...SO GOOD!

Then we went to this cool winery that looks like an old castle.  We tried and bought some tasty wines there.

We had dinner at probably my favorite restaurant, Angele.  We had amazing drinks, food (best mac n cheese I have ever had).  The service was good, the ambiance was good, and my date was pretty great too!

We stayed the night in Napa and came home Sunday morning.  It was really nice to spend some quality time together and relax a bit.

After we got back on Sunday I had brunch with two of my best girlfriends, Jaclyn and Christina.  It was so good to catch up and have some girl chat.  Spent the rest of Sunday baking cookies for my office, relaxing, cleaning and running (ill do a C25K update separately).

Hope you guys had a great weekend too!

couch to 5k update

Week 4 was the hardest week so far for me.  It is definitely getting hard on the first day of each week.  It is encouraging that the second and third runs from each week do get easier though.  I am a little scared, but as part of my "To Dos" this weekend, I signed up for a 5k as promised!

http://www.sffr.org/page/show/477908-pride-run

I picked this one because it is in the city and its the only race shortly after my training. Any of my SF readers wanna come run it too!? the more the merrier!

This week, Week 5 has been SUPER hard...because I havent run at all!  The hard part has been finding time after working late to go.  My plan was to run tomorrow morning before work (i.e. before I am exhausted), but now I have to drive to Sacramento tomorrow for work.  This means I have to leave my house at like 630am....WOW.  Could be worse though, I could be unemployed again!

I am going to make a serious effort to "just do it" after work today.  Fingers crossed for me!

the green mile

I had never seen this before Russ and I watched it Friday night.  At first I liked it a lot, then I was horrified, then I liked it a lot, then I was sad, then it was over.

At one point in the movie, one of the main characters makes a speech and at the end he says:

Mostly I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world everyday. There's too much of it. It's like pieces of glass in my head all the time. Can you understand?

Sometimes I think this is SO true.  It literally make me ill to think of what goes on in this world and the horrible things people do to each other.  I studied African politics in college and saw a lot of this first hand.

A prison where the government kept blacks during apartheid

But then in little ways people can be ugly too.  For example, my first time filing this paper at court for work this woman chewed me out for not having something right.  It was my first time, it was an honest (and easy to fix) mistake and yet she was so rude.  That kind of rudeness is not necessary ever and it's so easy to avoid.

SO I am going to try to make a concerted to effort to remember to be gracious to people, be patient and not be so demanding.  There is too much ugliness out there for me to add to it over  silly things.
I felt for John Coffey in this moment, but then I also wanted to say "it's ok John, there is so much goodness too!"  People can be so kind; this blog has shown me that time and again, along with many others.  Keep spreading the pretty and the good!
